The Weight of God’s Power
1 Samuel 4-5 | Eric Hovis | 6/8/25
This week, we continue our series, Quest for a King, in the book of 1 Samuel. In chapters 4 and 5, the Philistines defeat Israel and capture the Ark, leading to Eli and his sons’ deaths. When the Philistines place the Ark in their temple, their god Dagon falls and plagues strike their city, revealing God’s power.
Pastor Eric highlights three key takeaways from the text:
God is powerful, but he’s not our genie.
God’s power is for his own glory.
God’s power prevails against the enemy.
